The Summer Island Maldives in the North Male Atoll is a perfect choice for couples seeking an ultra-relaxing getaway. Take your pick from the beach or the infinity pool. If you decide to hit the sand, stroll to the end of the island, where there’s a deserted sandbank backed by crystal-clear waters. There are three restaurants, two of which are built on stilts over the sea, while the third’s a buffet on the beach, and a bar – the Avi eatery hosts live music in the evenings. The spa* takes care of that extra dose of relaxation. It’s home to sunset-view treatment rooms, a couples’ massage room and a steam room. Manicures, pedicures, full-body massages and facials are on the menu*.
The island is also home to the world’s largest 3D-printed coral reef. Made of ceramic, the man-made reef was created in 2018 and is now home to all sorts of underwater wildlife, like eels, rays and gem-coloured fish. If you go scuba diving, look out for the ‘love wall’ – an underwater spot where you can hang an engraved padlock.
