Playa Vista Azul takes full advantage of its coastal plot. You can walk to a strip of Varadero’s world-famous beachfront in two minutes, there’s a path that weaves through the gardens right down to the sand.

You get a triple serving of pools, with an infinity pool and two large pools, which both come with a big sprinkling of sun loungers. There is also a pool in the Privilege section exclusively for guests staying in the Privilege rooms. 

Food supply can be limited in Cuba, but hotel chefs are skilled in making the most of what's available each day. In buffet restaurants, you can expect meat and fish options, alongside some authentically Cuban side dishes. Options for soft and alcoholic drinks can vary from time to time, too, so if you find your usual tipple isn't available, it's a great excuse to try something new. There are a whopping five restaurants on the cards here. You can tuck into Italian, Caribbean or international food. There are also two à la carte restaurants exclusively for Privilege section guests. You can grab lunch down on the beach at the Ranchon Beach Bar, or head to the pool for drinks and straight-off-the-grill snacks.

Make the most of this beachside spot by dipping in and out of watersports, like snorkelling and windsurfing. Or, stay on dry land for games of tennis or billiards. The wellness centre* is the place to go to treat yourself. It has a gym so you can keep up with your workout while on holiday, and also offers a range of massages and beauty treatments.

Evenings are laidback here, but there’s no shortage of bars to choose from. After-dinner drinks are served up at the stylish lobby bar and theatre bar.
