Cascading down a steep hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples and mighty Mount Vesuvius, Sorrento is the gateway to the delights of the Amalfi Coast. Away from the bustling warren of twisting narrow streets that make up Sorrento’s picturesque old town, you’ll take to the sparkling waters to explore the fabled towns along the iconic Amalfi coast, including Positano and Amalfi. You’ll also have the chance to roam the lemon-tree clad hills and visit the limestone island of Capri.

ITINERARY

Day 1 UK - Naples - Sorrento

VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Naples. On arrival, you’ll transfer to your base just outside Sorrento for the next seven nights.

Day 2 Sorrento

After a leisurely morning, you’ll head into Sorrento to explore its labyrinth of cobbled streets. Soak up the beautiful sea views - with views of Mt Vesuvius in the distance - and browse the lively street vendors selling fresh fruit and tasty limoncello. After all the sightseeing, you may be feeling peckish, so you might like an optional excursion to learn the art of creating delicious Neapolitan pizzas at a local restaurant.

Day 3 Pompeii

You’ll visit Pompeii with a local guide, to explore the wealthy Roman town that was buried in AD 79 by a massive eruption of Mount Vesuvius. A guide will bring to life the day-to-day affairs of the once thriving town. Many household items were preserved within the walls that were buried in the thick layers of ash and lava, providing significant proof of Roman customs, trades and art. Even the walls themselves offer much information, with shop signs and graffiti with messages of electoral propaganda. To enhance your visit, you will be provided with your own audio headset.

Day 4 Amalfi Coast

Today you’ll journey along one of the world’s most spectacular and famous routes, the Amalfi Coast. The 50km stretch of stunning coastline winds its way along the Sorrentine Peninsula from Sorrento to Salerno with breathtaking vistas of land and seascapes. With your guide, you’ll wind along to pretty Positano by road, before taking to the water and gliding towards iconic Amalfi by boat - so you’ll have the added bonus of seeing the coastline from the sea. You’ll return by boat to Sorrento.

Day 5 Capri

You’ll journey to the ‘jewel of the Bay of Naples’ - the idyllic island of Capri. As you approach by private boat, you’ll see the island’s famed limestone cliffs soaring from the sparkling blue water. Take in the sights of the island from the water on a private guided boat tour, then enjoy some free time in Capri Town to wander the harbour and many gelato shops. You’ll also venture up to Anacapri, the centre of the island, via funicular for fantastic sea views.

Day 6 Sorrento

Today is completely at leisure to explore the tangled streets of Sorrento under your own steam. Perhaps join the optional excursion to the mighty Mount Vesuvius to learn about the about the history and geology of this restless mountain. After, stop for a wine tasting at a winery on the slopes of the volcano.

Day 7 Sorrento

Spend your final day soaking up the sights of Sorrento or perhaps wander down to one of the bathing platforms for a spot of relaxation. This evening you’ll enjoy a traditional farewell dinner at a local restaurant on Sorrento Pier.

Day 8 Sorrento - Naples - UK

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.

This tour visits places with cobbled streets and uneven terrain and may therefore not be suitable for those with walking difficulties.
