ITINERARY

Day 1 UK - Nairobi

VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Nairobi. On arrival you'll transfer to the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport Hotel (4-star)

Day 2 Nairobi - Aberdare National Park

This morning you’ll travel to Aberdare National Park, encompassing the beautiful, forested Aberdare Mountains and the heart of Kenya’s coffee-growing highlands. You’ll arrive at Treetops Lodge (3.5-star) or The Ark Lodge (3.5*), built beside a watering hole. Rhino and families of elephant are relatively common visitors, slaking their thirst as you settle back after a fine dinner, and an innovative optional in-room buzzer alerts you during the hours of darkness whenever a spectacle is unfolding outside.

Day 3 Lake Nakuru National Park

You’ll depart this morning and head west to Lake Nakuru National Park, by way of the Thomson Falls, regarded as Kenya’s most beautiful waterfall. Lake Nakuru is an ornithologist’s paradise, for hundreds of exotic species that call its shores home. At ground level, sightings of Rothschild giraffe, black and white rhino, lion and leopard are not unusual. You’ll stay at Lake Nakuru Lodge (3.5-star), presenting commanding views over the lake and the most convenient base for wetland game drives, which you’ll enjoy late this afternoon and early the following morning.

Day 4 Lake Nakuru National Park - Lake Naivasha National Park

Following an early morning game drive and breakfast, you’ll make your way to Lake Naivasha, another of the lakes of Africa’s Great Rift Valley. Animal life also abounds in this natural oasis, from hippo and buffalo wallowing among the papyrus reeds to giraffes nibbling the acacia, Colobus monkeys leaping from tree to tree and innumerate species of birds adding flashes of colour and exotic calls. The afternoon is free for you to relax and enjoy the resort facilities. Home for two nights is Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort (3.5-star) or Lake Naivasha Country Club (4-star).

Day 5 Lake Naivasha National Park

This morning you’ll explore the Crescent Island Game Conservancy, a reserve located on the eastern side of the lake and a haven for viewing birds and game. You will also make a stop at Elsamere, where you’ll enjoy afternoon tea. This small museum is the former home of Joy Adamson, author of ‘Born Free’, which was later turned into a hit film.

Day 6 Lake Naivasha National Park - Maasai Mara Game Reserve

No Kenya highlights tour would be complete without a stay in the Maasai Mara, renowned not only for its year-round concentration of animals, which you will view on an afternoon game drive, but also for its location directly in the path of the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra. You’ll arrive at Ashnil Mara Camp (5-star), located in the very heart of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and you’ll spend three nights here, in contemplation of the wildlife wonders of the Mara and the unforgettable Kenyan hospitality that you’ll have enjoyed on this outstanding journey.

Days 7-8 Maasai Mara Game Reserve

During your two full days in the Maasai Mara it would be no surprise to see prides of lion on one of your game drives, or the fastest land mammal, the cheetah, hunting gazelle on the open plains. Keep an eye out too for a host of other large mammals, numerous pods of hippo that patrol the nearby river and a selection of the Mara’s hundreds of species of bird.

Day 9 Maasai Mara - Nairobi - In flight

After an early breakfast, you’ll journey back to the Kenyan capital, stopping en route at a typical Maasai Village to experience the aspects of Maasai daily life and the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your overnight return flight to the UK.

Day 10 UK

Upon arrival, your vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.

PLEASE NOTE

Visa is not included, please call for details. The Great Migration can take place any time July-October, and it is not possible to guarantee that your journey will coincide with that of the wildebeest.
